How it is computed
For every route we watch, we know where today’s cheapest fare sits inside that route’s own 90-day price history — its percentile. The Fare Index is 100 minus the median of those percentiles. We use the median, not the average, so a handful of broken or freak prices cannot move it; we only count routes whose verdict we trust; and we publish the number of routes behind every number. Because each route is compared only with itself, countries with expensive flights and countries with cheap flights are directly comparable.
